Classical music festival

The Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra will hold a classical music festival on Saturday, March 12. Two concerts are included, featuring the CYSO ensembles at St. John's College's Key Auditorium, 60 College Ave. in Annapolis. The first concert takes place at 2 p.m. and features five ensembles. The second concert at 7:30 p.m. includes the Morgan State University Chorus and pianist Ernest Barretta.

There will be a silent auction for both concerts, along with a wine reception. Doors open at 1 p.m. for the first concert and 6 p.m. for the later one. Tickets are $45, $20 for students. Information: 443-758-3157 or cysomusic.org.

Open house for Wellness House

The Wellness House of Annapolis will hold an open house from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. March 20 to community members interested in learning more about the organization, as well as its support programs for families, children, patients, survivors and caregivers. Golf tournament for Md. Hall

Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts will host a best-ball-format golf tournament, "Chip in for the Arts," on April 28 at Compass Pointe Golf Course in Pasadena. Each player on the first-place team will receive a round of golf, a gift certificate to the Compass Pointe Pro Shop and a championship plaque. Prizes will also be awarded for second- and third-place finishes.

5k run/walk

Registration is open for the April 9 "Moving Around the World" 5K Run and Walk sponsored by the Rotary Club of Annapolis and the Rotaract Club of Annapolis. Event will be held in Quiet Waters Park's Sassafras Pavilion off Hillsmere Drive in Annapolis. Advance registration is $25; $30 on day of event; free for children 12 and younger. Sign-in and race packet pickup is from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., with runners beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the walkers. Advance registration must be made by April 1. Rotary grant applications

The Rotary Club of Annapolis is accepting grant applications until March 15 to distribute the proceeds from its annual crab feast in August.

Applicants may apply for a grant online at annapolisrotary.org or by mail using the online application as your template. Mailing address: Grants Committee, Annapolis Rotary Club, P.O. Box 603, Annapolis 21404. Requests will be evaluated and recipients will be notified and receive the funds during April and May. Winter golf at Fort Meade

Active-duty, retired military and civilian guests can play 18 holes of golf and get use of a cart for $25 during this winter special. Prices are available 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and after noon on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Directions and information: 301-677-5326.

'Recycle Forward'

Hillsmere Elementary School in Annapolis is participating in a program that recycles used technology to raise money for new technology. There will be a community drive through the end of the school year for donations of used cell phones, inkjet and laser cartridges, laptops, PDAs, iPods, MP3 players, video games, GPS systems, DVDs, calculators, LCD monitors and digital cameras. "Recycle Forward" is a joint effort between "Cartridges for Kids," a recycling program that pays cash to schools, and Digital Wish, a nonprofit that puts technology into the hands of educators. Baseball league

The Chesapeake Men's Senior Baseball League is seeking teams and/or players to fill rosters for the coming season. There are divisions for players older than 25, older than 35 and older than 45. Each team will play 20 to 22 games. Players must meet the minimum age requirement for their division by Dec. 31. Information: chesapeakemsbl.com.

Senior Idol

The fifth annual Maryland Senior Competition and Benefit will be held 1 to 3 p.m. March 30 at the Chesapeake Arts Center Theater, 194 Hammonds Lane in Brooklyn Park. Tickets are $6 and can be purchased at the door. Proceeds benefit the Maryland Food Bank. Information: 410-222-6680.

The Anne Arundel Volunteer Center has released its 2010-2011 Youth Resource Guide, which provides information about nonprofit and faith-based organizations in the county.
