Social Security building evacuated due to suspicious package

Package contained electronic equipment but was not dangerous

March 03, 2011|By Jessica Anderson, The Baltimore Sun

The U.S. Social Security Administration building in Woodlawn was evacuated Thursday over reports of a suspicious device, but Baltimore County police determined the package was not dangerous.

A police hazardous device unit responded to the package on a loading dock, causing the building in the 6400 block of Security Blvd. to be evacuated, said department spokeswoman Detective Cathy Batton.

There was electronic equipment inside, but the device was determined to not be dangerous. Workers were able to return to the building about 3:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
