Art show

The Howard County Public School System and the Howard County Arts Council present the annual spring exhibit of student artwork at the Howard County Center for the Arts, 8510 High Ridge Road. This year's Youth Art Month exhibit, titled "Art & Social Justice," features hundreds of works by students in grades K-12 and is on view in Gallery I. In Gallery II, work by the schools' faculty is on display in a show titled "Artist as Teacher: HCPSS Faculty Show." Both exhibits open Friday, March 11, and run through April 22. A free reception, which includes beverages and snacks, will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 1. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays. The center is closed Easter Sunday, April 24. Youth dance

The Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department's Junior Firefighters sponsor a "St. Patrick's" youth dance from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 12, for ages 9-15 at the firehouse, 6275 Old Washington Road. Quilt exhibit

"Stitches in Time/Threads of Change: An Exhibition of Maryland Community Quilts" continues through March 31 at Benjamin Banneker Historical Park & Museum, 300 Oella Ave. The "Banneker Historical Quilt," a project more than five years in the making, is the centerpiece of the exhibit. Softball registration

Howard County Youth Program (HCYP) is holding registration for its spring Girls Fastpitch Softball league. Teams are being formed for girls ages 6-17. Games start in early April. Registration and information: hcyp.org.

The Elkridge Hurricanes' 8U baseball team seeks players for its travel teams this spring and summer.
