Girls Athlete of the Week // Katie Parker, Severna Park, swimming

The freshman made an impressive debut at the state Class 4A-3A swimming championships, winning four gold medals and helping the 400-yard relay team set a state record. Parker, Marissa Head, Jenna Kirchoff and Katelyn Sowinski finished in 3 minutes, 38.07 seconds for the mark. She also helped win the medley relay and took gold in the 200 individual medley (2:11.64) the 100 breaststroke (1:07.23) as the Falcons finished second to Urbana in the team race. At the Anne Arundel County and the regional finals, she also swept all four events. She holds the school record of 1:06.99 in the 100 breaststroke. A club swimmer with SPY Aquatics, Parker has qualified for YMCA nationals next month, her third trip to nationals. Her GPA is 3.73.
