Aquille Carr stars as Patterson boys roll to regional semifinals

Sophomore guard has 39 points, 16 assists, eight rebounds as No. 1 Clippers top Dulaney, 98-68

Sophomore guard Aquille Carr had 39 points, 16 assists and eight rebounds as the area's top-ranked team No. 1 Patterson routed visiting Dulaney, 98-68, in a Class 4A North quarterfinal.

The game was relatively close in the first half, as the Clippers took a 45-35 lead into halftime.

"Our press led to a lot of turnovers, and we wore them down in the second half, " Clippers coach Harry Martin said.

Rickey Meekins added 20 points and Myrek Fowlkes scored 13 for Patterson, which improved to 22-1.

No. 8 Dunbar 72, Northwestern 40: Devante Wallace scored 23 points and Aaron Parham added 21 at the host Poets (20-3) beat the Wildcats in a Class 1A South matchup.

"We played well as a team, and we got a lot of energy from the guys we moved up the junior varsity," Dunbar coach Cyrus Jones said.

Next up for the Poets is the winner of IBE and Fairmont Heights.

No. 14 Broadneck 79, Severna Park 51: The host Bruins (21-3) led 33-20 at the half and never looked back in defeating the Falcons in a Class 4A East quarterfinal.

Owings Mills 92, Harford Tech 51: The host Eagles improved to 21-3 as they cruised past the Cobras in Class 1A North.

"They came out like the Phoenix Suns, had five 3-pointers in the first half," Owings Mills coach Richard Epps said of Harford Tech. "In the second half, we switched to a man-to-man defense, and that was the key to victory."

The Eagles will face Havre de Grace in the semifinals.

Milford Mill 65, Hereford 43: Katrell Myers scored 12 points and Tevin Hanner added 11 to lead a balanced attack in a game the Millers dominated from the start.
