Blast edges Riot in OT, 16-13, on Ferdinand's goal

February 28, 2011

Max Ferdinand scored two goals, including the game-winner at 5:15 of overtime, as the first-place Blast earned a 16-13 victory over the host Chicago Riot on Sunday night.

The Blast (14-3) has won its past eight Major Indoor Soccer League games and returns to 1st Mariner Arena on Friday night to host the Riot. Baltimore needs one more win to claim the regular-season title and the right to host the championship game.

Alex Megson gave the Riot a 13-8 lead early in the final quarter, but the Blast fought back. Warren Ukah cut the Riot lead to 13-11 with a 3-point goal at 4:47, and Machel Millwood tied the game with a 2-pointer at 10:51.

The Riot took a 4-0 lead before Millwood scored the Blast's first goal of the night to cut the Riot's lead in half.

Matt Watson scored two goals in the first four minutes of the second quarter to give the Blast a 6-4 lead, but the Riot scored the next two goals to tie the game and regain the lead, 8-6.

Ferdinand scored a power-play goal in the third minute of the third quarter to tie the game again.
