Robert Morris uses late run to beat Mount St. Mary's, 65-57

Robert Morris pulled away from Mount St. Mary's with a late run to win, 65-57, Thursday night.

The Colonials (15-13, 11-6 Northeast Conference) led 39-38 with 11:30 remaining before scoring 11 straight. Gary Wallace, who finished with nine points, capped the spurt with a 3-pointer to put Robert Morris ahead 49-38 with 8:38 remaining.

The Mountaineers (10-19, 8-9) would cut the lead to three, 56-53, on Lamar Trice's free throw with 2:42 remaining but didn't get any closer. The Colonials hit a field goal and 7 of 8 free throws the rest of the way to seal it.

Velton Jones scored 12 points and Russell Johnson and Lijah Thompson added 10 each for Robert Morris.

The Colonials shot 43 percent from the field (23 of 53), and the Mountaineers 35 percent (18 of 52).

Trice scored 24 points to lead Mount St. Mary's.

St. Mary's 79, Mary Washington 57: Christian MacAuley and Alex Franz (Cardinal Gibbons) had 18 points each, leading the top-seeded Seahawks to a win in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament semifinals. MacAuley added 13 rebounds and two blocks, and Franz had seven assists, four steals and three rebounds.

Wesley 75, Salisbury 74: Chris Douglas and Darrell Johnson each had 22 points in a hard-fought Wolverines victory over the Sea Gulls. Sixth-seeded Salisbury was down one point with 44 seconds left after Eric Johnson hit a pair of free throws, but a defensive stand by Wesley sealed the game. Senior center Chris McGrew had 34 points for the Sea Gulls.


UNC-Wilmington 61, Towson 47: Martha White led the Seahawks (10-4) with 19 points over the visiting Ti- gers (6-8).
