Pair of 25-point games net rookie award for Terps' Stoglin

Maryland guard Terrell Stoglin was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. The freshman from Tucson, Ariz., averaged 25 points and 7.5 assists last week for the Terps. Stoglin scored 25 in the Terps' 91-83 loss to Virginia Tech, while also contributing six assists in 28 minutes against the Hokies. On Sunday, in Maryland's 87-80 win over North Carolina State, Stoglin scored 25 points on 8-for-14 shooting from the field and 9-for-10 shooting from the line. He also had nine assists — a high mark for any Terp this season.

Another Division I men's honor: Delaware freshman guard Devon Saddler was named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Rookie of the Week.

Division I men's game: Michael Harper led four players in double figures with 25 points and host Coppin State (14-12, 9-4) shot a season-high 60 percent from the field in an 89-72 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory over Delaware State (9-17, 5-8) on Monday night.

Division II and III men's honors: Bowie State junior center Travis Hyman (Old Mill, Anne Arundel Community College) was named Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week. … Stevenson sophomore guard Brett Burrier (Winters Mill) was named Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Division I women's games: Erin Hawkins made a steal then converted two free throws with 24 seconds remaining in overtime as host Morgan State (15-11, 9-3) rallied to a 58-56 victory over UMES (8-18, 5-8). Trailing 56-52 with 2:08 left in overtime, the Bears tied the score on baskets by Moneshia Davis and Brittany Noel. … Kianna Conner made a three-pointer with 7.6 seconds remaining in regulation to lift Delaware State (9-17, 5-9 MEAC) to a 51-49 victory over host Coppin State (10-15, 7-6). … Sophomore Alyssa Sutherland recorded her first career double double with 17 points and 11 rebounds and host Loyola (17-10, 14-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) outscored visiting Manhattan (19-8, 11-5) by 26 points in the second half to post its eighth consecutive victory, 60-45. … Visiting Long Island scored 12 of the final 20 points to earn a 65-61 victory over Mount St. Mary's (8-19, 5-11 Northeast Conference).

UMBC sophomore midfielder Dave Brown and redshirt freshman attackman Matt Gregoire (South River) were named America East Conference men's Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

More Division I men's honors: Navy freshman attackman Sam Jones (Severna Park), who had five goals and an assist in his first two games, was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week. … Loyola sophomore attackman Mike Sawyer was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Lacrosse League Co-Offensive Player of the Week. … Ohio State freshman goalkeeper Greg Dutton (Calvert Hall) was named ECAC Rookie of the Week.

Blast midfielder and captain Robbie Aristodemo was named Major Indoor Soccer League Player of the Week after he recorded four goals for nine points in victories over the Omaha Vipers and Milwaukee Wave.

Baseball: The New York Mets named former Orioles bench coach Dave Jauss coordinator of staff development and former Orioles outfielder Jack Voigt outfield-baserunning coordinator. … Washington Nationals right-handed pitcher Luis Atilano cleared waivers and was assigned to Triple-A Syracuse.

Women's college soccer: Severna Park and Freestate United forward Marisa Kresge is one of eight newcomers to the Maryland team, coach Brian Pensky announced.
