Boys Athlete of the Week // Charlie Lynch, Archbishop Spalding, wrestling

February 22, 2011

Lynch, a senior who is headed to Pennsylvania to wrestle next season, pinned all five of his opponents at the Maryland Independent Schools state wrestling tournament last weekend to win the 145-pound weight class and his second state title. The times of his pins totaled 9 minutes, 52 seconds, with his first match taking just 29 seconds and his longest coming in the final with a pin at 3:41. He also scored the most points by a senior for his team at the event — 24 — and led the Cavaliers to the team championship. It was their first A Division state crown. The team finished the regular season a perfect 33-0. Lynch did even better, finishing 55-0 with 41 pins and five technical falls (wins by 15 or more points). He is ranked sixth nationally by Wrestling USA and carries a 3.7 GPA.
