Workshop

The Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre presents a free, pre-audition workshop for its coming production of the musical "Hairspray," 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 26 at West Annapolis Elementary School, 210 Annapolis St. Leading the workshop will be the show's director, Darnell Morris, and choreographer, Nicole Martin. "Hairspray" is a Broadway musical based on the film written and directed by John Waters. Show will be performed Aug. 4-Sept. 4. Information: summergarden.com.

Colonial Players

Theater fans can get an advance look at the Colonial Players' coming season at a "Sneak Peek" event at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at 108 East St. in Annapolis. Event includes short scene readings and songs from the seven shows that will make up the 2011-2012 season. Information: thecolonialplayers.org.

Restaurant week

The Annapolis Restaurant Week takes place Feb. 21-27. Thirty-six restaurants in Historic and greater Annapolis will offer three-course, price-fixed meal selections at a cost of $15.95 for lunch and $29.95 for dinner during the event. Among the participating restaurants are the Acme Bar & Grill, Buddy's Crabs & Ribs, Cafe Normandie, Hell Point Seafood, Luna Blu Ristorante Italiano, Rams Head Tavern, Sam's on the Waterfront, Yellowfin Steak & Fish House and many others. Winter golf at Fort Meade

Active-duty, retired military and civilian guests can play 18 holes of golf and get use of a cart for $25 during this winter special. Prices are available 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and after noon on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Directions and information: 301-677-5326.

Hospice of the Chesapeake

Organization needs individuals with four-wheel vehicles to assist patients and staff with transportation during inclement weather. To volunteer and for information: 443-837-1549.

Workshops

The AAC Department of Aging and Disabilities presents free workshops from 9:30 a.m. to noon Fridays through Feb. 25 at the Arnold Senior Center, 44 Church Road. "Living Healthy With Chronic Conditions" is a self-management program for adults to help them handle their chronic conditions, which may include diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, obesity, chronic pain or anxiety, and heart disease. Bus trip

The Meade Area Garden is sponsoring a bus trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show on March 7. The bus departs from the Ridgeview Shopping Center at 8:45 a.m. and returns at 6 p.m. Cost for the bus is $41 for garden club members, $46 for others. The amount must be paid when making reservations. No refunds after Feb. 14 unless there is a waiting list for a seat. Admission fee is $24 for the show, which will be collected on the bus the day of the trip (exact amount). Reservations and information: Beverly Durana, 410-551-2263.

'Recycle Forward'

Hillsmere Elementary School in Annapolis is participating in this program, which recycles used technology to raise money for new technology. There will be a community drive through the end of the school year for donations of used cell phones, inkjet and laser cartridges, old laptops, PDAs, iPods, MP3 players, video games, GPS systems, DVDs, calculators, LCD monitors and digital cameras. "Recycle Forward" is a joint effort between "Cartridges for Kids," a recycling program that pays cash to schools, and Digital Wish, a nonprofit that works to bring technology into the hands of educators. Baseball league

The Chesapeake Men's Senior Baseball League is seeking teams and/or players to fill rosters for the coming season. There are divisions for players older than 25, older than 35 and older than 45. Each team will play 20 to 22 games. Players must meet the minimum age requirement for their division by Dec. 31. Information: chesapeakemsbl.com.

Senior Idol

The fifth annual Maryland Senior Competition and Benefit will be held March 30 at the Chesapeake Arts Center Theater, 194 Hammonds Lane in Brooklyn Park. Auditions take place Feb. 18 at the Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road in Glen Burnie. Rules, registration forms, and a photo release and consent form will be available at all seven senior centers in Anne Arundel County or online at http://www.aacounty.org/aging. The contest is open to anyone who has not sung for a living and is at least 60 years old. Information: 410-222-6680.
