A Glen Burnie man admitted Tuesday that he shot his former girlfriend when she came to pick up their daughter after his birthday party last fall.

Steven Brown, 41, pleaded guilty before Anne Arundel County Circuit Judge Paul A. Hackner to attempted second-degree murder and a handgun violation. Assistant State's Attorney Anne Colt Leitess said she will seek a 30-year prison term when Brown is sentenced next month.

Leitess said when Kimberly Pickett arrived to get their child Sept. 26, Brown pulled up beside her car.

They spoke, and he then blocked her car with his pickup truck and shot once through the car windshield, hitting Pickett's raised right hand, Leitess said. Using the remote key for her car, he opened the driver's door and fired into her hip, she said. He was arrested nearby.

The gun was not recovered.
