Notre Dame Prep's victory Sunday in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference swimming championship amounted to so much more than winning a title.

The Blazers not only broke McDonogh's eight-year hold on the team crown and paid it back for edging them in last season's championship, but they did it in the Eagles' pool.

"That means a lot," Notre Dame Prep's Kendall Krumenacker said. "We were determined to win."

The Blazers won the regular-season title last year before losing to McDonogh by just five points in the championship meet. They won the regular-season crown again this winter and also prevailed at the National Catholic meet in Philadelphia last weekend.

Notre Dame Prep kept rolling Sunday. The Blazers used balance and depth to finish with 452 points to McDonogh's 415. They didn't win any individual events but captured two relays.

"McDonogh has strength, and we have depth," Notre Dame Prep coach Terri Byrd said. "That's why I thought we had a chance."

Despite having no individual victories, the Blazers put at least two swimmers in the top five in six of the eight events. They won the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relays and took second in the 200 medley relay.

Krumenacker was one of several Notre Dame Prep swimmers who helped pile up points. She took second in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 backstroke, and swam on the victorious 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Erin Dunseith, who finished second in the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle, also swam on the second-place 200 medley relay. Dani Potis (second in the 500 freestyle, third in the 200 individual medley) also swam on the winning 400 relay and the third-place 200 relay.

Also in the A Conference, Jordan (100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke) and Kendall Surhoff (100 freestyle, 200 IM) won two individual events apiece for St. Paul's. Caroline Hamilton of Archbishop Spalding won the 200 and 500 freestyle.

Bryn Mawr captured its first B Conference title with little trouble, scoring 441 points to John Carroll's 349.5.

Korby Simpson led the Mawrtians, winning the 100 butterfly (57.20 seconds) and 200 freestyle (1:53.44). Her times would have won in the A Conference. She also swam on the first-place 400 freestyle relay team.

Georgie Crompton, who also took part in the 400 relay, had Bryn Mawr's other individual win, in the 200 IM (2:16.88).

"I liked the tenacity this team showed for the past few years I've been coaching here," the Mawrtians' Singleton Mathews said. "They've worked hard [to overcome] all the obstacles they've faced."

Also in the B Conference, Seton Keough's Jessica Sweitzer won both the 50 and 100 freestyle.
