Art exhibits

"Ascending Through the Darkness" Exhibit of abstract drawings and paintings by Ania Milo is on display through Feb. 26 in Tai Sophia Institute's Himmelfarb Gallery, 7750 Montpelier Road, Laurel. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Information: 410-888-9048 or tai.edu.

"And They're Off!: 100 Years at Laurel Park" Centennial exhibit opening Sunday, Feb. 6, at the Laurel Museum, explores the history and racing highlights at Laurel Park and the track's impact on the community. The museum is at 817 Main St. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. Information: laurelhistoricalsociety.org.

Film series

The National Wildlife Visitor Center is joining with the Conservation & Wildlife Film Festival and Friends of Patuxent to present a once-a-month winter film series through April. Short and feature documentary films will be screened in the morning and afternoon; each session is two hours. This month's screening takes place Feb. 19. Cost is $5, $3 for children younger than 12. Fun at the library

A "Picture Book Parade!" for ages 2-5 with an adult will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursdays at the Savage branch of the Howard County Library. The program includes a craft. Pajama Time, when children may wear pajamas and bring teddy bears and blankets, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesdays. The branch is at 9525 Durness Lane in Laurel. Information: 410-880-5980.
