Towson men rally but fall short against Drexel, 65-59

Chris Fouch and Gerald Colds each scored 15 points and Drexel sent visiting Towson to its 11th straight defeat with a 65-59 victory Wednesday night.

The Dragons (15-7, 7-5 Colonial Athletic Association) dominated the boards, outrebounding Towson 47-31, with Daryl McCoy grabbing 13 and Samme Givens 11. Drexel also held Towson to 7-of-26 shooting in the first half and took a 30-22 lead at halftime.

The Tigers (4-18, 0-12) fell behind by 14 points, their largest deficit, when Frantz Massenat, who had 11 points and eight assists, made two free throws with 15:34 remaining. Towson pulled to within four points on four occasions, but couldn't get any closer.

Rashawn Polk led Towson with 14 points. Isaiah Philmore, normally the Tigers' leading scorer (14.0 points a game), struggled to get into double figures

Division III men: Sam Burum scored a career-high 30 points to power visiting St. Mary's (17-4, 11-1 Capital Athletic Conference) to an 82-75 victory over York (13-8, 7-5). … Host Frostburg State (9-12, 4-8 CAC) went on a 9-0 run late in the second half to win, 71-65, over Hood (10-10, 6-6). … Visiting Washington College (6-14, 5-8 Centennial Conference) rallied late but fell short, 78-75, to Haverford (10-9, 7-6). … Tim McCarty had 17 points to lead host Johns Hopkins (5-15, 3-10 Centennial) to a 65-46 win over Gettysburg (11-9, 8-5). … Chris McGrew scored 21 as visiting Salisbury (8-12, 3-8 CAC) won, 69-48, over Marymount (4-16, 2-9). … Brian Gerney (13 points) hit the winning layup with 2.6 seconds left to lift host Dickinson (10-10, 8-5 Centennial) to a 62-61 win over McDaniel (11-9, 8-5). … Greg Woody (Mount St. Joseph) had 20 points, but host Stevenson (6-15, 2-10 CAC) fell, 90-64, to Wesley (14-6, 10-1).

Division I women: Visiting UMBC (13-10, 7-3 America East) shot 27 percent from the field and lost, 47-40, to Binghamton (15-8, 8-2), which took over sole possession of second place.

Division III women: Cara Thompson had 23points to lead visiting McDaniel (6-13, 5-10 Centennial) to a 73-60 double-overtime victory over Dickinson (8-11, 6-9). Thompson capped a 17-6 run with two free throws with 5.6 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. … Elaina Hummel scored 20points, including a pair of free throws with one second left in overtime, as host Frostburg State (11-10, 8-4 CAC) won, 76-73, over Hood (7-10, 2-10). Allyson Lethbridge had 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Blazers. … Sally O'Donnell totaled 17 points to power visiting Washington College (9-10, 7-7 Centennial) to a 58-52 win over Haverford (8-12, 5-10). … Visiting Salisbury (9-8, 7-4 CAC) shot 54 percent from 3-point range as the Sea Gulls won, 53-39, over Marymount (9-8, 7-4). … Gettysburg's Julie McGrory hit a jumper as time expired to force overtime, where the visiting Bullets (15-5, 10-5 Centennial) outscored Johns Hopkins (16-4, 13-3) by 10-6 and won, 61-57. … Sophie Pruden had a career-high 16 points in a losing effort, as visiting St. Mary's (10-10, 6-6 CAC) fell, 69-51, to York (11-9, 8-4). … JaQuelia Conley had 11 points as host Stevenson (2-18, 1-11 CAC) was outscored 27-16 in the first half and lost, 50-44, to Wesley (10-10, 5-6).
