BGE president: Thanks for your patience during the storm

February 03, 2011

Last week we experienced one of the most damaging winter storms in BGE's history, resulting in outages for more than 236,000 customers — about 65 percent more than during last year's back-to-back blizzards combined. This was due to a heavy, wet snow that brought down trees and large limbs onto power lines and other electric delivery equipment.

We would like to extend thanks to all of our customers who reported outages rapidly and persevered with patience while service was being restored throughout Central Maryland. Thanks also to the more than 2,300 dedicated BGE and contract employees who worked tirelessly to safely bring our customers back into service as quickly as possible.

In addition, we extend our appreciation to the utility and contract crews from Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Virginia who assisted in this massive effort.

BGE will continue to monitor current and approaching weather conditions and make certain that our storm response procedures are continually up-to-date. We also encourage our customers to visit bge.com for storm preparedness tips and information to ensure the safety of their families and property during electric service interruptions.

We take seriously our responsibility to safely deliver natural gas and electricity to our customers and thank you for weathering this latest storm with us.
