The Blast moved back into a tie for first place with a 15-10 win over the host Chicago Riot on Sunday night. The Blast battled back from a 4-0 deficit to take an 8-4 lead early in the second half, only to fall behind 10-8 late in the game, forcing a fourth-quarter rally. The Blast, which has won four straight games, scored the last three goals, starting with Warren Ukah and ending with a game-winning 3-pointer and a penalty kick from Pat Morris.

U.S. men's national team withstands Notre Dame rally

The U.S. national team withstood a second-half rally from the No. 7 Notre Dame men's lacrosse team to capture a 12-7 victory in exhibition play Sunday in Orlando, Fla. Team USA scored the first seven goals of the game, including one by Steven Boyle (Johns Hopkins), before the Irish responded with four in a row by the end of the third quarter. A 4-0 run from Team USA made it 12-5 with 8:29 left in the game. Stephen Peyser (Johns Hopkins), Peet Poillon (Chesapeake Bayhawks, UMBC), Chazz Woodson and Kevin Leveille scored the unanswered goals.

Olson's late heroics lift Loyola over Iona, 88-85, in OT

Robert Olson sent the game into overtime with a 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining and scored the last five points in the extra period to help host Loyola (11-10, 7-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) to an 88-85 victory over Iona (13-9, 7-4) on Sunday. With the score tied at 84 after the Gaels' Scott Machado made one of two free throws, Olson hit a layup to put the Greyhounds up for good with 41 seconds left to play. Iona's Jamal Jenkins missed a jumper and Machado again went 1-for-2 from the foul line to make it 86-85 with 20 seconds remaining. Olson then made both his free throws to seal the Greyhounds' seventh win in nine games. Brian Rudolph tied his career high with 19points in a career-high 44 minutes as one of six double-figure scorers for Loyola. J'hared Hall had 15 points, Justin Drummond 14 and Dylon Cormier (Cardinal Gibbons) and Erik Etherly added 12 each for the Greyhounds.

Loyola gets past Canisius; Towson falls short vs. JMU

Senior Meredith Tolley scored 20 points, including 15 in the first half, to lead visiting Loyola (11-10, 8-2 MAAC) to a 71-65 victory against Canisius (6-15, 2-8). Junior Miriam McKenzie (Oakland Mills) had her sixth doubledouble of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Katie Sheahin added 14 points, and sophomore Alyssa Sutherland had 11 points. Canisius was led by Steph MacDonald, who had 17 points.

More Division I: James Madison (15-6, 8-1 Colonial Athletic Association) got a game-high 28 points from Dawn Evans en route to a 56-45 victory over host Towson (7-13, 1-8 CAA). The Tigers got 16 points and four assists from junior guard Krystal Parnell in the loss. Towson trailed 44-42 before the Dukes scored 12 of the final 15 points. Towson senior forward Dovile Miliauskaite blocked a career-high five shots, giving her 57 for her career, 10th in school history.

Wujciak honored as MVP at season-ending banquet

Linebacker Alex Wujciak, a three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer, was named Maryland's Most Valuable Player at the team's awards banquet in Greenbelt. Wujciak led the team in tackles (117) for the third straight season. Former coach Ralph Friedgen, who attended the banquet, called Wujciak the "heart and soul of the team." Friedgen, who was forced to leave his alma mater last month with one year remaining in his contract, said his farewells at the banquet, telling the crowd: "I want to thank my family, the coaches and all the staff in the Gossett Team House. I also want to thank the players, their families, the fans and all the alumni. I feel really blessed." Wide receiver and return specialist Torrey Smith, an All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team pick, secured three honors: Offensive MVP (which he also won in 2009), the C.P. "Lefty" McIntosh Public Service Award and Offensive Captain. Another All-ACC first-team performer, Kenny Tate, was named the defensive MVP. Davin Meggett, the team's leading rusher, was selected as Most Improved Offensive Player. Antwine Perez was the Most Improved Defensive Player.

Maryland's Meharg named 5th best recruiter in any sport

ESPNU and ESPN The Magazine named Maryland field hockey coach Missy Meharg the No. 5 recruiter in all of college sports. The list was put together in conjunction with three dozen experts in college sports and recruiting. Meharg was the only field hockey coach to make the list. Pat Henry, the Texas A&M men's and women's cross country, indoor and outdoor track coach, was No. 1, followed by North Carolina women's soccer coach Anson Dorrance, Southern California football assistant Ed Orgeron and Connecticut women's basketball assistant Chris Dailey. Northwestern women's lacrosse coach Kelly Amonte Hiller, a Maryland alum, was 19th. Meharg has coached 45 All-Americans, five four-time All Americans, nine Atlantic Coast Conference Players of the Year and seven ACC Freshman of the Year winners.
