Interstate 695: About 300 disabled vehicles were towed off the Beltway to about 30 different tow yards, according to Maryland State Police. Owners of vehicles abandoned on the Baltimore County portions of I-695 should call the Golden Ring state police barracks at 410-780-2700 with the license plate number and the location where it was left.
Drivers who left their cars on the Anne Arundel County portions of the beltway should call Glen Burnie barracks at 410-761-5130. If they still can't locate their vehicle, motorists should contact the State Highway Administration shop in the district where their car was abandoned, said State Police spokeswoman Elena Russo.
Baltimore City: This morning, many drivers found their cars at the Poly-Western High School parking lot off Falls Road. Tow truck drivers spent much of the night and early morning moving abandoned cars off city streets and highways, in order to give plows a fighting chance to clear the roads. Drivers were able to pick up their cars without having to pay any towing fee.
Baltimore County: County police are not ticketing abandoned cars, but they are arranging to have those vehicles towed at the owners' expense. "Cars will be towed to licensed towing companies," said David Fidler, spokesman for the county public works department. Only vehicles that are impeding traffic, blocking intersections or standing in travel lanes will be towed, he said.
Cars will be transported to the nearest facility in the police precinct where they were abandoned. The towing operation began before midday Thursday. Owners searching for their vehicles can call the nearest police precinct or go online to http://www.autoreturn.com to determine which company handled the tow, Fidler said.
Anne Arundel County: Drivers whose cars were towed from Anne Arundel County streets should call the police non-emergency line at 410-222-8610.
Howard County: In Howard County, the three towing firms licensed by the county picked up around 100 vehicles, though some are still trickling in, according to employees at the firms. There is no official police count yet. All were taken to the firm's storage lots, though state highways towers may have taken a few to the Long Gate Park and Ride lot in Ellicott City.
Anyone seeking information about a towed vehicle in Howard County may call the police at 410-313-3200.
