Jackson, Thompson lead Morgan over Hampton, 80-70

DeWayne Jackson scored 21 points and Kevin Thompson (Walbrook) had a doubledouble to help Morgan State (7-7, 3-0) earn an 80-70 victory over Hampton (12-4, 2-1) on Monday night and remain undefeated in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. Thompson finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Aric Brooks (St. Frances) had 18points and eight rebounds; Ameer Ali added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Morgan State.

More Division I games: Michael Harper scored 18 points and Coppin State improved to 6-1 at home with an 84-53 MEAC victory over Howard. After losing to Hampton on Saturday, the Eagles returned to their winning ways at home by shooting 54.0 percent from the field. Coppin State (6-8, 1-2 MEAC) also received 14 points from Jordan Lee and 10points each from Vince Goldsberry and Akeem Ellis. … Landon Clement scored 24points to lead host North Carolina Central (6-8) to a 67-61 victory over UMES (3-12), which got 15points from Hillary Haley and 10 from Dishawn Bradshaw (St. Frances).

Division I honors: Navy freshman forward J.J. Avila has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the second straight week and for the fourth time overall. His four Rookie of the Week honors are the second most in school history, behind the six won by Michael Heary in 1994-95.

Division I schedule: Saturday's game between visiting Delaware and Towson will tip off at noon so fans can watch the Ravens-Pittsburgh Steelers game at 4:30 p.m. Fans wearing Ravens apparel will be admitted to the basketball game free of charge.

Division II game: Bowie State (7-2, 2-0 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) earned an 86-76 victory over Winston-Salem State (8-2, 2-1) behind 24 points from Eric Vann.

Division II honor: Lincoln junior guard Denzel Mooney (Western Tech) was named CIAA Newcomer of the Week.

Division III honors: Hood freshman forward Cameron Cook (Calvert Hall) was named Pride of Maryland Player of the Week. … Hood senior center Tyler Snoots was named Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Women's college basketball

Loyola falls to Marist despite 15 points from McKenzie

Junior Miriam McKenzie had 15 points and nine rebounds as host Loyola (6-9, 3-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) lost, 59-43, to Marist (13-2, 4-0). Sophomore Katie Sheahin, the MAAC Player of the Week for the second straight week, also had nine rebounds.

More Division I games: Mary Dunn became the 25th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points, but Mount St. Mary's (3-12, 0-4 NEC) lost, 75-62, to Saint Francis (Pa.) (9-7, 4-0) in the Northeast Conference. Dunn, a senior, finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Dunn, a senior, moved into ninth place on the program's all-time career rebounding list with 745; she's the ninth player in program history to register 1,000 points and 700 rebounds in her career. … Visiting Hampton (10-5, 3-0 MEAC) cruised to its second straight win with a 68-37 victory over Morgan State (7-7, 2-1), which got 12 points from Brittany Dodson. … Crystal Whittington scored 15points and Janine Manley added 14 as Coppin State (3-10, 1-2 MEAC) ended a seven-game losing streak with a 48-39 victory over visiting Howard. … Visiting UMES (3-10) broke its seven-game winless streak with a 48-47 victory over host North Carolina Central (2-13) when a runner by NCCU's Blair Houston missed. Chena Parker led UMES with 10 points and nine rebounds; Kwinnyata Mercer had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Division II game: Bowie State (6-3, 2-0) earned a 62-49 victory over Winston-Salem State (7-5, 2-1) behind 12 points each by Lakisha Walker (St.Frances) and Teaunsha Robinson (Poly).

Division III honors: Frostburg State senior center Mindy Sharp was named CAC Player of the Week.

Johns Hopkins' Paulucci is D-III Defender of the Year

Johns Hopkins senior Jenn Paulucci has been named the D3soccer.com Defender of the Year. Paulucci helped the Blue Jays to a second straight trip to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2010. Paulucci and the Hopkins' defense held opponents to 0.70 goals against per game and had 12 shutouts.

Men's lacrosse: Four seniors — defender Marc Ingerman, goalie Travis Love (Winters Mill), defensive midfielder Peter Mezzanotte and attackman Tim Stratton — have been selected as captains for Towson.

Women's lacrosse: Shepherd signed Georgia Karr (Liberty), Victoria Michel (Centennial), Lily Schmulowitz (Catonsville) and Allison Wesley (Annapolis Area Christian School) to letters of intent.

Softball: Towson signed the following players to letters of intent: middle infielder Hailey Balk (West Covina, Calif.), pitcher Missy McCormick (Las Vegas), infielder Macie McGeehan (Oaklyn, N.J.) and utility player Emily Miller (Maple Valley, Wash.).
