Blast gets back at Wave, 12-6, reclaims tie for first place
The Blast (6-2) rebounded Sunday to defeat the host Wave, 12-6, and move back into a tie for first place with Milwaukee in the Major Indoor Soccer League. Less than 21 hours after losing to the Wave, 15-12, at 1st Mariner Arena, the Blast jumped to a 10-0 third-quarter lead and completed a split of the weekend series. Pat Healey led the way with two goals and two assists, and backup goalkeeper Nick Hovaker, playing because Sagu suffered a pulled groin Saturday night, was sharp in his Blast debut. Healey scored at 12:39 of the first quarter and at 9:08 of the second quarter; Giuliano Celenza, who had three goals and one assist Saturday night, assisted on both of Healey's goals and added a goal in the third quarter. Warren Ukah, Adrian Bumbut and Celenza scored in the third quarter before the Wave got onto the scoreboard 42:43 into the game on a power-play goal by the team's leading scorer, Marco Terminesi. The Wave fought back in the fourth quarter, scoring two goals and playing nearly five minutes on the sixth-attacker offense, but Pat Morris scored a short-handed goal with eight minutes remaining. Blast forward Lucio Gonzaga was ejected in the fourth quarter after an on-field altercation.

Loyola is routed at Iona despite Barney's late spurt
Iona scored 56 first-half points and junior forward Mike Glover finished with 25 points and 10rebounds as the Gaels posted an 86-68 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference home victory over Loyola. The Gaels (10-6, 4-1) opened the game with six straight points from Glover and a dunk by Alejo Rodriguez to take an 8-1 lead before the Greyhounds made their first field goal three minutes into the game. After Iona went up 23-11, Loyola (6-9, 2-3 MAAC) would get its deficit to nine three times in the first half — the last time after a 3-pointer by junior guard J'hared Hall with 10minutes left. The Greyhounds tried to make a run in the second half largely behind senior guard Jamal Barney (Southwestern), whose 3-pointer made the score 73-60 with just over nine minutes remaining. But the Gaels scored 11straight points to take their largest lead of the game at 84-60 with 5:54 left. Maine forward Tanna Ross hit a 3-pointer with 0.4 of a second remaining to give the host Black Bears (3-12, 1-2 America East) a 60-57 victory over visiting UMBC (7-8, 1-1). The loss ended the Retrievers' three-game winning streak. Maine guard Ashleigh Roberts responded with a 3-pointer to put the Black Bears back on top by five 27 seconds later, but the Retrievers scored five of the next seven points to pull to within 55-54 with 59.1 seconds left. Guard Amber Smith's jumper with the shot clock expiring on Maine's next possession put the hosts back on top by three, but UMBC junior guard Michelle Kurowski hit a 3-pointer to tie it with 20 seconds left. The Black Bears played for the last shot, and with just seconds left, a double-teamed Katelyn Vanderhoff sent the ball to Ross, who banked in the game-winner. Kurowski had her second double double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three assists and three steals. Senior forward Meghan Colabella added 10 points.
