A Baltimore teen is accused of trying to kill a man and his sister when she tried to intervene in a fight, months after he was accused of setting a dog on fire, according to charging documents filed in Baltimore City Circuit Court.
Police say Travers Johnson,18, tried to kill Terrell Harris and his sister Brittany Harris during an Oct. 16 fight in the 1600 block of N. Gilmor St., in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood. Brittany Harris had tried to intervene in a fight between her brother and Johnson, the documents state, when Johnson pulled out a black handgun from his waist and shot at Terrell Harris three times. Johnson then fled the scene, the documents say.
Police say an anonymous witness saw Johnson shooting at the siblings and picked him out of a mug shot line-up later.
Johnson is also accused, along with his twin brother Tremayne Johnson, of setting fire to a pit bull puppy in May 2009. The twins are scheduled for trial on those charges on Jan. 18, about a week before Travers Johnson returns to court for arraignment on charges in connection with the October shooting.
While investigating the animal cruelty incident, police found a gun and drugs in the Johnson home, leading to charges against the brothers and their father Charles Johnson. The brothers were ordered held without bail, but prosecutors dropped the drug and gun charges in March and the brothers were freed pending the cruelty case.
In connection with the shooting, Johnson faces charges of attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment, and possession and discharging a handgun.
