Deadline approaching for those seeking loans after Nov. tornado

January 08, 2011|By Jessica Anderson, The Baltimore Sun

Feb. 7 is the deadline for those seeking disaster loans for damage resulting from the Nov. 17 tornado that tore through Parkville and north Baltimore.

The U.S. Small Business Administration is offering homeowners, renters, businesses or nonprofit organizations with insured losses low-interest disaster loans before insurance settlements are made, according to a new release from the Baltimore County Fire Department.

For those who are unsure how much of the loss will be covered by insurance, the SBA will consider making a loan for the total loss up to its loan limits, as long as the borrower agrees to use insurance payments to reduce or repay the loan, the release says.

For additional information, call the SBA's Customer Service Center, 800-659-2955 or send an e-mail to disastercustomerservice@sba.gov.

Loan applications are available on the SBA's web site.
