W.R. Grace buys Ohio technology company

RS Solutions makes control devices for concrete industry

December 21, 2010|By Andrea K. Walker, The Baltimore Sun

Columbia-based chemical company W.R. Grace & Co. has purchased the assets of a private technology business based in Ohio that it will integrate into its concrete division.

RS Solutions LLC manufactures devices such as sensors that help concrete companies control the quality and cost of a product.

The technologies help to measure things such as concrete consistency during delivery. Using the devices helps to detect changes in the concrete during transport, such as the uncontrolled addition of water. These changes can drive up costs or lead to claims about quality.

Grace's construction products division already has a relationship with RS Solutions marketing and selling a control system that measures the consistency of concrete on ready mix trucks.

RS will be integrated in Grace Construction, which is based in Cambridge, Mass.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
