What former Terps are saying about Friedgen's ouster

December 20, 2010

How former players feel about the university's treatment of Ralph Friedgen:

"The way that I see it is it's unfortunate the whole way this thing has played out. Several weeks ago it's all over ESPN that Ralph Friedgen will return for the 2011 season and all of a sudden couple weeks after this happens. The one thing that I think Ralph has is regardless of how this situation plays out, he's done an unbelievable job of turning thins thing around quickly. I hope he'll leave and the fans will remember it was nothing but him and his staff and the player s that allowed for such a great turnaround."

Jordan Steffy

Quarterback, 2004-08

"I don't know what happened behind the scenes, but based on my experience with coach Friedgen and looking at the teams he took over in 2001, and winning coach of the year in 2001 and in 2010, it is definitely surprising. And just what he's done for the program the last 10 years. Considering he has one year left, I think he got the short end of the stick. He had seven bowls in 10 years. It's shocking."

Jon Condo

Long snapper, 2000-04

"The eight-game turnaround, I thought, was pretty huge. Winning coach of the year was huge. There seemed to be a good atmosphere with the team, good camaraderie. … . I don't know what the end result is that they're trying to reach."

Chris Turner

Quarterback, 2005-09

"They see the program going in a different direction and I guess things like that happen. There are moves like this that happen every year. I mean, this happens every year in college football and professional football. … I know that always seems that these business decisions are made for better or worse and that's a decision you have to live or die with. I guess he [Anderson]wants more out of this program. Friedgen was a great coach there."

Lance Ball

Running back, 2003-07
