Southwest to add 3 daily flights between Baltimore and Newark

Southwest Airlines plans to add three new daily nonstop flights between Baltimore and Newark, N.J., as part of 10 additional flights the airline will offer from Newark Liberty International Airport starting in June.

In addition to flights to Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, the new daily nonstop flights out of Newark will include routes to Denver International, Houston Hobby and Phoenix Sky Harbor International, Southwest announced Wednesday. Those cities join previously announced nonstop service from Newark to Chicago Midway and St. Louis starting in March.

The additional flights will give Newark 18 daily Southwest Airlines departures, the airline said. Southwest said in August that it planned to offer service from Newark through a lease deal with Continental Airlines that was contingent on the merger between Continental and United Airlines.

To launch the new service, the airline said it was offering fares as low as $49 one way between Baltimore and Newark through southwest.com through Friday at 11:59 p.m. PST for travel between June 5 and Aug. 12. The limited-time fare sale also includes one-way travel between Newark and Denver, Houston and Phoenix.

The additional service from Newark will increase Southwest's presence in the New York area, where the airline offers flights from LaGuardia International Airport and Long Island Islip MacArthur International Airport.
