East Carolina

Record: (6-6, 5-3 Conference USA)

Coach: Ruffin McNeill (First season)

The Pirates will be making their fifth straight bowl appearance when they face Maryland in the Military Bowl on Dec. 29 at RFK Stadium. East Carolina owns the nation's worst defensive unit, but has found success with one of the most prolific offenses in college football. The Pirates are ranked 12th in the country in scoring (38.2 points per game) and seventh in passing offense (319.3 yards per game). Junior quarterback Dominique Davis has thrown for 3,699 yards, the fourth most in the country, while throwing 36 touchdown passes and completing nearly 65 percent of his throws. The Pirates' defense is a different story, ranked last out of 120 Football Bowl Subdivision teams after allowing 478 ypg and 69 touchdowns through 12 games. East Carolina has two players with local ties: junior kicker Michael Barbour transferred from Maryland after the 2009 season and freshman defensive lineman Derrell Johnson (Cardinal Gibbons) has made 40 tackles.
