Holiday events

•"Chocolate and Confections": Learn to make fudge, candied nuts, caramels, chocolate bark and marshmallows as edible gifts. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, Humanities Building Room 218, AACC Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway. Cost is $69 and includes $25 fee. Course number: CUI 390.

•"Chocolate Truffles": Learn to prepare milk, dark- and white-chocolate truffles in assorted flavors and finishes. 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, Humanities Building Room 218, AACC Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway. Cost is $58 and includes $25 fee. Course number: CUL 385.

•"Comfort and Joy — Meals for the Holidays": Explore holiday dishes that date to the solstice festivals. Learn recipes and symbolism behind foods such as Christmas pudding. Must be 21. 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, Humanities Building Room 207, AACC Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway. Cost is $58 and includes $25 fee. Course number: CUI 340.

•"Cookie Extravaganza": For grades 6 to 8. Learn to bake an assortment of holiday cookies. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, AACC Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway. Cost is $75 and includes $30 fee. Course number: YOH 809. Call for building and room number.

•"Cookie Exchange": Spend the day baking holiday cookies using provided recipes and ingredients. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism Institute kitchen, Glen Burnie Town Center. Cost is $111 and includes $45 fee. Course number: CUI 399. Course also available Dec. 12, 18 and 19.

• "Fresh Flower Christmas Arrangement": Learn to create table arrangements using red and white roses, white and green mums, hydrangeas, spray roses, fresh greens, berries and carnations. 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, Willow Oak Herb Farm in Severn. Cost is $60 and includes $40 fee. Course number: HOR 364.

Nursing scholarships

Through 2014, three Anne Arundel Community College nursing students will receive $3,000 scholarships through a program set up by Johns Hopkins HealthCare. The scholarships will benefit county residents enrolled in the college's registered nursing associate of science degree program who demonstrate financial need as established by the AACC financial aid office.
