Mike Preston's matchups: Ravens vs. Steelers

December 03, 2010|By Mike Preston, The Baltimore Sun

Ravens OLBs Jarret Johnson and Terrell Suggs vs. Steelers OTs Jonathan Scott and Flozell Adams:

Strongside linebacker Jarret Johnson has played extremely well the past two games because his shoulder and back problems are fading. The Steelers will double up on outside linebacker Terrell Suggs on their left side against Jonathan Scott, but Suggs will still play well. Johnson has to have a big game on the right side against Flozell Adams. He might be the Ravens' most important pass rusher Sunday. Adams isn't the dominant player he once was, but still has a solid game. Edge: Ravens

Ravens OT Michael Oher vs Steelers OLB James Harrison

Harrison is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL. He is powerful and uses great leverage to get around opposing linemen. Oher has struggled at times this season, and he won't be 100 percent because of the sprained knee. Oher will have trouble dealing with Harrison's speed, and the Ravens might have to make adjustments early in the game. Edge: Steelers

Ravens DT's Haloti Ngata and Kelly Gregg vs. Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey:

Pouncey, a rookie, got pummeled last week against Buffalo, and it won't get any easier against the Ravens. He'll have either Kelly Gregg or Haloti Ngata in his face all afternoon. The Ravens respect Pouncey, and they like his ability to make blocks on the second level. But he won't face another duo as strong as Gregg and Ngata. Look for Pouncey to get a lot of help in this game from the guards. Edge: Ravens
