Broncos fined for taping 49ers

November 28, 2010

Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels has been fined $50,000 for illegally taping an opposing team's practice.

The Broncos were also fined $50,000 for the incident. The team released a statement detailing what was uncovered during the league's investigation, though they did not disclose the exact amount of the fine.

"This incident cuts into the trust and respect our fans, our ticket-holders, our community and our fellow competitors have for our organization," Broncos CEO Pat Bowlen said. "That is why the Denver Broncos, upon learning of this violation, immediately investigated this matter and reported the incident to the league."

A team employee, said to be former video operations director Steve Scarnecchia in reports, videotaped the 49ers' walk-through on his own before the teams' game in London.

The team statement adds that McDaniels declined to watch the videotape but was fined because he did not immediately report the incident to the league office. Scarnecchia was fired with cause for his actions.
