Rookie kick returner David Reed got sick during the game and was kept on the sideline out of concerns that he might be dehydrated. But he was fine after the game. There were no other injuries reported by the team. … The Ravens deactivated defensive tackles Brandon McKinney, Lamar Divens and Arthur Jones, free safety Tom Zbikowski (bruised right heel), linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, wide receiver Marcus Smith and rookie tight end Dennis Pitta. … Carolina played without three starters in quarterback Jimmy Clausen ( concussion), running back Jonathan Stewart (concussion) and left guard Travelle Wharton (toe). St. Pierre, Mike Goodson and Mackenzy Bernadeau started at quarterback, running back and left guard, respectively. … The Panthers also deactivated wide receiver Brandon LaFell, running back Tyrell Sutton, safety Marcus Hudson and defensive tackle Ed Johnson. Wide receiver Armanti Edwards was the third (emergency) quarterback. Edwards played quarterback at Appalachian State. … Both members of Carolina's Ring of Honor have Baltimore ties. Mike McCormack was the head coach with the Colts, and linebacker Sam Mills played for the USFL's Baltimore Stars. … Strong safety Dawan Landry and linebacker Prescott Burgess represented the Ravens for the coin toss.
