Howard County police are asking for help locating a dark gray or charcoal SUV involved in a hit-and-run Friday that left a Laurel man in critical condition.

Lawrence Pernell Chinn was walking in the eastbound lanes of Route 216 at Pilgrim Avenue in Laurel at about 5:45 p.m. when he was struck by the SUV, police said. The driver of the SUV continued on, according to police; a passerby saw Chinn lying in the road and called police.

Chinn, 33, of the 9300 block of Cross Timbers Avenue in Laurel, was transported by MedEvac to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was listed in critical but stable condition, police said.

Police believe the SUV is dark gray or charcoal and might have front-end damage. They are asking anyone with information to call 410-313-2200.

Eastbound Md. 216 was closed for approximately 45 minutes during the investigation.
