Rookie awards to Posey, Feliz

Giants catcher Buster Posey and Rangers closer Neftali Feliz were named the Jackie Robinson Award winners Monday as the top rookies in the National and American League, respectively, as voted on by the Baseball Writers' Association of America members.

Posey, the Giants' first Rookie of the Year winner since pitcher John Montefusco in 1975, placed first on 20 of the 32 ballots cast and received a total of 129 points, based on the 5-3-1 tabulation system. He also was second on nine and third on two other ballots to finish 22 points ahead of the Braves' Jason Heyward.

Feliz, the second Rangers rookie to win the award after Mike Hargrove in 1974, edged the Tigers' Austin Jackson by 24 points.

•Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg was hired to manage the Phillies' Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs. ... The Phillies also signed Jose Contreras, 39, to a two-year deal that guarantees the right-hander $5.5 million.

•The Reds agreed to a 1-year, $3 million deal with catcher Ramon Hernandez, who started a team-high 85 games last season.
