Day trip: Philadelphia Marathon Weekend

November 10, 2010

Philadelphia Marathon

What: The Philadelphia Marathon includes the 26.2-mile main run, a half-marathon, an 8K run, a kids fun run, and a health and fitness expo. Most spots are sold out by now, but just because you can't run doesn't mean you can't have fun cheering on the participants. There are more than 25 cheer zones set up along the course, including a Philly Cheesesteak Cheer Zone with cheese steak hats and more.

Where: All runs — except for the kids fun run — start at 22nd Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, near the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The expo is at the convention center.

When: Events are Friday, Saturday and Nov. 21. The marathon and half-marathon are Sunday. The 8K and Kids Fun Run are Saturday.

How much: Free. Also, pick up a Fan Pass — it's free — at the health expo to receive discounts and special offers throughout race weekend. You can also download a pass online at philadelphiamarathon.com/fan-pass-discounts.

What's nearby: Several hotels are offering discounts, but many are sold out. Call the hotel directly to check for availability. For more on attractions, go to visitphilly.com.
