Report: Newton rep sought pay

November 05, 2010

A man who said he represented Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton during his recruitment out of junior college last year asked for payment to secure his commitment to Mississippi State, former MSU player John Bond has told multiple sources

ESPN.com cited unidentified people Thursday saying Bond's former teammate Kenny Rogers was the one soliciting payment. ESPN.com reported the school refused to get involved with Rogers, who has come under scrutiny from the NFL Players Association and the NCAA.

Newton's father, Cecil Newton, told the Associated Press the family denies any allegations.

David Wilson's 90-yard kickoff return with 2 minutes, 23 seconds left gave No. 22 Virginia Tech (7-2, 5-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) a 28-21 victory over visiting Georgia Tech (5-4, 3-3).

•The NCAA handed Michigan a third year of probation for practice and training violations, declining to sharply punish coach Rich Rodriguez or his program for an embarrassing problem that cropped up before last season.
