Cameron Newton,QB, Auburn
Buzz: Despite having what some would consider a pedestrian performance Saturday — 254 total yards and three touchdowns — Newton did add a new wrinkle to his Heisman resume when he caught at 21-yard touchdown pass against Ole Miss while leading Auburn to a 9-0 start.
Up next: vs. Chattanooga, Saturday.
LaMichael James, RB, Oregon
Buzz: The sophomore rushed for 239 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Ducks to an impressive 53-32 victory over USC in prime time. James has rushed for 1,210 yards and 14 TDs.
Up next: vs. Washington, Saturday.
Kellen Moore, QB, Boise State
Buzz: Playing in front of an ESPN audience Tuesday, Moore led the Broncos to their 22nd straight win by throwing for 298 yards and two TDs against Louisiana Tech. He added a 7-yard TD catch.
Up next: vs. Hawaii, Saturday.
Denard Robinson, QB, Michigan
Buzz: Statistically, Robinson is having a Heisman-caliber season — 2,796 total yards and 22 touchdowns — but the Wolverines have lost three straight and he is falling behind Newton and James.
Up next: vs. Illinois, Saturday.
Robert Griffin, QB, Baylor
Buzz: A year removed from a season-ending ACL injury, Griffin has taken the Bears to new heights. The sophomore has 2,993 total yards and 27 TDs in leading Baylor to its first Top 25 ranking since 1993.
Up next: at Oklahoma State, Saturday.
Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma
Buzz: Jones continues to put up impressive numbers for the Sooners — he passed for a season-high 453 yards and four touchdowns in Oklahoma's 43-10 victory over Colorado on Saturday.
Up next: at Texas A&M, Saturday.
Kendall Hunter, RB, Okla. State
Buzz: Hunter is having a career year for the Cowboys. It's just too bad that Oregon's James is having a better year or the senior back would be the top running back in this year's Heisman Watch.
Up next: vs. Baylor, Saturday.
Honorable mention: Taylor Martinez (Nebraska); Ryan Mallett (Arkansas); Russell Wilson
(N.C. State); Bryant Moniz (Hawaii).
