A man wanted for two bank robberies is in the Howard County detention center facing theft, drug and weapons charges after a county officer using an automated license plate reader found the man in a stolen car.
Zachary Scott Shanaberger, 30, of the first block of John Street, Westminster, was found Sunday sleeping in a 2003 Honda parked in the Lisbon Park and Ride lot in Howard County, according to police. Cpl. David Patterson was on routine patrol when he used one of the county's four automated license plate readers to scan the tags of vehicles in the lot. He discovered that the Honda had been stolen Oct. 28 from Baltimore County, according to police, and Patterson arrested Shanaberger, who also was wanted on warrants charging him in two March bank robberies in Westminster and Anne Arundel County, police said.
Inside the car, Patterson also found a knife, drug paraphernalia and suspected heroin, police said.
Shanaberger is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail on the Howard County charges.
