Howard County police have arrested a man who is believed to have set a woman on fire in a wooded area of Laurel where the couple may have been living.
Officers were called to woods near Gorman Road at about 2:45 p.m. for reports that a man had set a woman on fire, police said.
A witness, who police also believed to be homeless, ran to a nearby store to call 911.
The woman was found suffering from severe burns and was taken to the burn center at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, police said. Her condition is unknown. Police are not releasing her identity.
After a search, officers found the man on Greenwood Place about two hours later and took him into custody. Police have not confirmed his identity.
