Civil rights office head requests trial in drunken-driving case

The director of the Office of Civil Rights for the attorney general's office requested a jury trial Monday on drunken driving and related charges, and a trial in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court could be scheduled for as early as this week. Police accused Carl O. Snowden, 57, a longtime Annapolis activist, of driving under the influence June 8 on Route 97 near Farm Road. A Talbot County prosecutor handled the case Monday because Snowden worked on issues with the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office when he was employed from 1998 to 2006 as an assistant to then-County Executive Janet S. Owens. Snowden received probation before judgment in a prior drunken-driving case.
