Obama to stump for O'Malley at Bowie State University

President plans campaign stop on Thursday

October 01, 2010|By Annie Linskey, The Baltimore Sun

President Barack Obama is set to stump for Gov. Martin O'Malley on Thursday at Bowie State University, O'Malley's campaign confirmed Friday. The event is planned for the afternoon, though the O'Malley team could not be more specific about the time.

Obama's stop could excite the African-American voters whom O'Malley, a Democrat, is counting on in his contest against Republican former Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. The president has also cut a 60-second radio ad for O'Malley, praising the governor on his handling of education and the economy.

Ehrlich said last week that the stop is evidence that O'Malley's team is worried about their chances in the overwhelmingly blue state. He also said endorsements will likely have little impact in the contest between two well-known candidates.
