Last meeting: Maryland defeated FIU, 26-10, on Sept. 8, 2007, in Miami.

Maryland offense vs. FIU defense: Panthers surrendered 400 yards of offense vs. Texas A&M but thrived on pressure (six sacks, four interceptions). Senior DB Anthony Gaitor (54-yard interception return TD vs. Texas A&M) has two interceptions. "They're a load-the-box, aggressive, pressure, a lot-of-movement type of defense," said Maryland offensive coordinator James Franklin. Terps will need to re-establish running game (minus-10 rushing yards vs. West Virginia).

FIU offense vs. Maryland defense: QB Wes Carroll leads a balanced offense (160.5 average passing yards, 141 rushing yards) but has completed just 47.3 percent of his passes. Leading receiver is T.Y. Hilton (nine catches, 96 yards), who also returns kickoffs. Terps surrendered four TD passes by West Virginia QB Geno Smith, but continued early-season trend of forcing turnovers (two recovered fumbles and interception vs. Mountaineers).
