Man arrested in double shooting near Green Mount Cemetery

Police arrested Martez Tyrell Brooks in the Monday night shooting of a man and woman near Green Mount Cemetery, just 24 hours after the incident.

Police picked up Brooks, 19, around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 3200 block of Lyndale Ave., where he lives. Police said the male victim, who was shot multiple times in the upper torso in the 700 block of E. Preston St., is in critical condition. The female victim, who was shot twice in the left leg, is expected to survive.

According to court records, Brooks' charges include attempted first- and second-degree attempted murder, assault in the first degree and reckless endangerment.

A trial date is set for Oct. 19.

Brooks was also convicted on a drug charge in January, court records show.
