A motorcyclist was killed and a passenger seriously injured Saturday night in a three-vehicle pileup triggered when a deer jumped into Solley Road in Glen Burnie, police said.

John Edward Fabian III, 34, of Glen Burnie, was driving his Honda Shadow motorcycle south on Solley Road near Nabbs Creek Road at around 11:40 p.m. Saturday when he rear-ended a Honda Civic driven by Christopher Allen Shade, 19, of Pasadena, Anne Arundel County Police said.

Shade had slowed to avoid a Ford Contour driven by Beth Marie Sidlowski, 26, of Baltimore, police said. Sidlowski was trying to avoid the deer.

Fabian was thrown from his motorcycle, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His passenger, 29-year-old Miranda Jo Means of Baltimore, was seriously injured, police said.

Neither Shade nor Sidlowski was injured, police said.

Police said alcohol was a contributing factor, but did not specify who had consumed it. The incident remains under investigation.
