A hit-and-run accident involving a Mercedes-Benz and a motorcycle Saturday evening in Baltimore critically injured the operator of the bike and prompted a wide search for the sedan's driver, police said.

Det. Jeremy Silbert, a spokesman for the Baltimore Police Department, said the crash occurred at about 7 p.m. as the motorcycle and the car were traveling north in the 5200 block of Erdman Ave. Silbert said a preliminary investigation showed that the sedan struck the motorcycle and then fled.

The bike's operator was ejected by the force of the crash. He was taken to a local hospital in what Silbert said was critical condition.

Patrol officers were looking for a black, newer-model Mercedes with damage on the driver's side. Anyone with information about such a vehicle or its driver is asked to contact the Police Department's accident investigation unit at 410-396-2609.
