Information session

The Howard County Legacy Leadership Institute for the Environment will sponsor an information session at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Wilde Lake Interfaith Center, 10431 Twin Rivers Road. Session is for those interested in applying for classes beginning Jan. 31. Classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Class size is limited to 15. Heritage day

The Columbia Association hosts the annual "Dia de la Familia" from noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Columbia SportsPark, 5453 Harper's Farm Road, behind the Safeway in the Harper's Choice Village Center. Event is held in commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month and features miniature golf, batting cages, a moon bounce, balloon sculptor, face painter, door prizes and free food. Cabaret night

Silhouette Stages will hold a Cabaret Night at 8 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Slayton House Theater in the Wilde Lake Village Center. If you have an act or a song ready for the stage, e-mail Mo Dutterer, the show's director, at ssqq@comcast.net, for an application. Art exhibit

Slayton House Gallery kicks off the fall season with a solo show, "Abstract Work: Collage Paintings," by Robert Tennenbaum. Show runs through Oct. 9 at 10400 Cross Fox Lane, and is part of the Howard County Road to the Arts. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Closed Sundays. Information: 410-730-3987 or 301-596-4883.

Around town

Wii club Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks offers a Wii club for those 55 and older from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesdays at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way. The first game is free. Information: 410-313-7213.
