Angel McCoughtry (St. Frances) scored a WNBA playoff record 42 points to help the host Atlanta Dream beat the New York Liberty, 105-93, on Tuesday night to complete an unlikely march to the league finals.

Cappie Pondexter led New York with 36 points and nine assists.

McCoughtry, the 2009 Rookie of the Year, surpassed the 41 points that Tamika Whitmore scored for the Indiana Fever in 2006 and her own previous career high of 34.

Pondexter's 36 points are the third highest ever in a playoff game.

The Dream, the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, swept the Washington Mystics in the first round before also winning two straight over the Liberty in the conference finals.

Atlanta, a third-year expansion franchise that set a league record with 30 losses only two years ago, will face the Western Conference champion Seattle Storm in the WNBA finals. The best-of-five series will begin Sunday in Seattle.
