Woods picked for Ryder Cup

September 08, 2010

Tiger Woods received one of Corey Pavin's four captain's picks on Tuesday and will play for the United States in this year's Ryder Cup.

"I'm part of a team and honored to be part of that team," Woods said. "I always loved playing the Ryder Cup. I've been looking forward to it. I'm honored to be selected."

Zach Johnson, Stewart Cink and Rickie Fowler were Pavin's three other picks to round out the American side, which takes on Europe starting Oct. 1 at Celtic Manor in Wales.

Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker, Hunter Mahan, Jeff Overton, Matt Kuchar, Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson made the team on points after the PGA Championship last month.

"I'm very pleased to add these four to Team USA. My job is to put together the best team to represent the United States in the Ryder Cup," Pavin said.

Woods failed to qualify for the team on points for the first time since he turned professional. He's mired in his worst season as a professional.
