Boys soccer: Players to watch

Derek Chan

Atholton, defender, junior

The skillful defender is a three-year starter who will be given the opportunity to increase his scoring this season by pushing forward. Chan will serve as captain and lead a talented group that is looking to make another deep run into the playoffs.

Mike Gamble

McDonogh, junior, forward

He is regarded as one of the most talented strikers in the nation and could make a run at the MIAA's single-season scoring record this season. Gamble is being recruited by Maryland, Wake Forest, Duke, Virginia, North Carolina and UCLA.

Joe Glos

Perry Hall, senior, forward

The talented striker led the Gators with 13 goals and 10 assists, despite attracting the opponent's top defenders. He helped Perry Hall win the Baltimore County championship and will play at UMBC next season.

Julian Griggs

McDonogh, senior, foward

The dangerous striker returns after leading the MIAA two years ago with 24 goals. He earned first-team All-Metro honors, was a first-team All-State pick and an All-South selection national team player. Griggs will play at Princeton next season.

Andrew Harris

Gilman, junior, goalie

Harris is highly regarded as one of the top goalkeepers in the region and he has played for the Casa Mia Bays. Harris made the All-MIAA teams as a sophomore and will help keep the Greyhounds in the mix for a conference championship.

Malcolm Harris

McDonogh, junior, defender

The transfer from Good Counsel is regarded as the nation's top defender for his age by several publications, including ESPNRise and Soccer America. Harris has already been offered several professional contracts overseas and is being recruited by numerous Division I schools.

Seth Moses

Loch Raven, forward/defender, senior

The versatile player led the Raiders to the Class 1A state championship and led the team with 10 goals and seven assists. Moses is being recruited by several Division I schools and is called a "total player" by coach Joe Fiedler.

Jalen Robinson

Mount St. Joseph, sophomore, defender

Robinson is one of the most gifted defenders in the nation and started for the U.S. under-18 men's team in a series of games in Argentina and Chile over the summer. He has already caught the attention of several professional clubs.

Patrick Sullivan

Marriotts Ridge, midfielder, senior

The playmaker scored seven goals and had seven assists in helping the Mustangs win their first Class 2A state championship.

Zach Wenger

Calvert Hall, junior, defender, junior

Wenger is one of the top defenders in the area with his ability to move forward. He is a four-year starter and three-time captain who has already committed to UMBC.
