Book sale Shepherd of the Glen Lutheran Church will hold its annual book sale from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 10 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 11 at the church, 14551 Burntwoods Road in Glenwood. 'Pooches' Pool Party' A swim/splash party for dogs and their human buddies will be held Sept 11 at the Roger Carter Recreation Center, 3676 Fel's Lane in Ellicott City. Session one takes place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; session two will be held from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $10 per pooch. Golf tournament Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks presents the Celebration of Sports Golf Tournament on Oct. 14 at Timbers at Troy Golf Course in Elkridge. In addition to placement awards, prizes include longest-drive holes, closest-to-the-pin holes, and hole-in-one contests. Gala Gilchrist Hospice Care 25th annual Taste & Auction of Howard County will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 24 at Turf Valley, 2700 Turf Valley Road in Ellicott City.
