Life Casting Workshop

Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts is offering a new "Life Casting Workshop" for adults. Life Casting is the art of creating molds of the human form that replicate the subject in a 3-D format. Molds can be made of any part of the body, including a full-body cast. This three-day workshop in which students learn the history of life casting and get hands-on experience with the process, takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 13, 20 and 27 at 801 Chase St. in Annapolis. The workshop is for ages 18 and older. Class is $250 tuition/$25 membership/$10 registration. Workshops will be taught by life casting artist Ann Lyneah Curtis. Auditions

•The Colonial Players will hold auditions at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, at 2132 Reynard Court, for roles in the mystery "Earth and Sky," running Oct. 29-Nov. 20. •The Anne Arundel Community College Theatre will hold auditions at 7 p.m. Sept. 13-14 in the Pascal Center for Performing Arts, 101 College Parkway in Arnold, for its fall production of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." All roles are open. Information: 410-777-7125.

Vision and hearing screenings

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health vision and hearing technicians and school nurses will conduct mandated vision and hearing screenings in public schools for children in preschool, kindergarten, first and eighth grade, and for students new to Anne Arundel County schools. Special education students receiving speech therapy may also be recommended for screening. Department vision and hearing technicians also administer vision and hearing screenings at private schools, nurseries and day care programs to ensure that the appropriate children are screened. Children who wear glasses should bring them to school on the day of the screening.

Students in the following schools and programs will be screened:

Monday, Aug. 30: Hannah More School.

Monday, Aug. 30-Tuesday, Aug. 31: St. Margaret's Day School.

Tuesday, Aug. 31: Children's Guild, Children's World Learning Center at NSA.

Children are screened to detect vision or hearing problems that may impair their ability to perform successfully in school. If a potential deficiency is detected, a letter is sent to the parents, who are advised to contact the child's doctor for further testing and advice. Information: 410-222-6838.

Singers needed

Encore Chorale, a choral program for singers 55 and older, seeks singers for its fall season at Anne Arundel Community College beginning Sept. 13. The chorale meets at 2 p.m. Mondays at the college, 101 College Parkway, Arnold. Singers improve their voices, make new acquaintances, and prepare to join Encore Chorales from Virginia, Maryland and Washington for holiday concerts. Information: 301-261-5747.

Police academy

The next session of the Citizen's Police Academy begins Oct. 4 at the Annapolis Police Department, 199 Taylor Ave. The program will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays for seven weeks. The Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County is seeking nominations for its annual Philanthropist of the Year award. This award is presented to an individual, couple or family with a record of exceptional generosity through direct financial support, demonstrating outstanding civic and charitable responsibility that encourages others to become philanthropic leaders. The Anne Arundel Volunteer Center has released its 2010-2011 Youth Resource Guide, which provides information about nonprofit and faith-based organizations in the county.
