Conference The Howard County Office of Children's Services presents "Grow Your World" from 8:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the Gary J. Arthur Community Center in Glenwood. Conference is for family care providers and features the latest information on child care regular changes and professional opportunities. Participants have a choice of several workshop topics for morning and afternoon sessions, including developing play skills in infants and toddlers, developing a discipline strategy to help children avoid tantrums, and teaching children how to make healthy choices. Open house Kinetics Dance Theatre will hold an open house from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 2 at 3280 Pine Orchard Land, Ellicott City. A variety of classes are offered, including ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip-hop, musical theater, creative dance, dance fundamentals, as well as specialty classes in Pilates, yoga and fitness. Book sale Shepherd of the Glen Lutheran Church will hold its annual book sale from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 10 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 11 at the church, 14551 Burntwoods Road in Glenwood. Event includes more than 20,000 books for sale. There will also be a large assortment of DVDs, videos, CDs, tapes and records. Children's books and paperback books will be priced at 50 cents and hardbacks will sell for $1.
