Tebow finishes strong in debut

August 16, 2010

Tim Tebow made his NFL debut, scoring on a 7-yard run on the final play of the Broncos' 33-24 loss to the Bengals. He finished 8 of 13 for 105 yards, most of that coming on the final drive. Kyle Orton threw two TDs in the first quarter.

•Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said he had his reasons for not playing quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the team's exhibition opener Saturday.

"With the number of snaps we anticipated running with the first team, it just wasn't appropriate to play him," he said.

Curtis Painter threw three interceptions in relief of Peyton Manning (8 of 10, 91 yards) in the Colts' 37-17 loss to the 49ers, who lost TE Vernon Davis to a mild right knee strain.

•Cowboys RT Marc Colombo (right knee) left practice and reportedly will miss 2-4 weeks. … Patriots WR Torry Holt (knee) was put on injured reserve and his career might be over. … Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald has a right MCL sprain but should be ready for the season. … Bills RB Marshawn Lynch (ankle) is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.
